Major Hille: Infanterie tunic to German Cross recipient

Lot 35-0053
Result will show once logged in

Auction ended: December 1, 2018

Wehrmacht 4-pocket Infantry tunic to Major Wilfried Hille. Hille was awarded the German Cross in gold on 3.11.1943 as a Hauptmann serving with I./Grenadier-Regiment 459. Hille was awarded the Honor Roll Clasp of the Heer shortly earlier on 7.10.1943!

Hille was born on 14.4.1916 and served as a young Leutnant with Inf.Rgt.81 before the war. He was promoted to a Major on 1.12.1943. Please see next lot for another tunic to Hille.

Fine quality officers tunic with slight wear to it. Tailored by Oswald Max Michael, Dresden. There is a name tag inside the inner breast pocket named to Hille.

The tunic is in great condition and from really nice quality. The collar tabs are attached by machine, the machine-woven breast eagle is attached by hand.

There is some nice detail to the liner on the very top of the inner sleeves (near armpits). You can clearly see that there was a different thread used to the top area of the armpit. That means this area has been opened once and close again. This make absolute sense since Hille was not in the rank of a Major when purchasing this tunic in 1938. So the shoulder boards were professionally replaced by the correct ones. Of course that all happened period time.

Hille served as a Fahnenjunker-Oberfeldwebel by the time he ordered this tunic in 1938. The 6.7.38 dated name tag is to "Ofw.Hille" (Oberfeldwebel Hille). This would legitmate him to wear his tunic with officers collar tabs.

The German Cross cloth type is nicely attached by hand to his right breast pocket. There are 3 pair of loops (clearly used) for awards and one pair for a ribbon bar of Close Combat Clasp.

The tunic comes with original attached buttons all over which have nearly all of the original fieldgrey paint to it. A high quality tunic and excellent condition. Not one moth hole. Size M.

A rare chance to get a true tunic to a German Cross recipient.
