U.S. Navy officer's Sword belt - Spanish American War

Description

This is a United States Navy officer's sword belt with buckle from the Spanish-American War era. The Spanish-American war began in February 1898 after the USS Maine exploded at Havana Harbor. Popular opinion at the time blamed the Spanish for the Maine's demise although the evidence was far from conclusive. The center of the buckle shows an eagle perched upon an anchor in relief and either side of it is an ornate floral design.
