France - M1874 garde cuirassier helmet
Description
M1874 officer's helmet for garde cuirassier. Separately attached comb from gilt brass. Hollow constructed multi-piece construction. Original screws. Original tail from black horse hair. To the left side a brass mounting for a so-called "Huppe" (missing). Red "houpette" from horsehair attached to the front side fitting on top of the comb.
Iron nickel-finished helmet with rust. Brass chain with leather straps. Signs of use and age.
Inner leather liner partially dry. Markings and stamps to the reverse.
Both visors finished with leather.
