Description

A beautiful photo album to a nameless German Fallschirmjäger serving with 16./Sturm-Regiment during the invasion of "Kreta". The album documents the Battle of Crete very detailed. A very personal album with numerous handwritten information inside. He added period time newspaper cut-outs and there are two maps describing his way to Crete and back.

The album starts with a hand-written list of KIA soldiers of his "Kompanie" followed by quite a few newspaper cut-outs related to the Crete Campaign. The first pages show 70 photographs document the unit's journey Megan harbour where the prepared for the campaign.

The next page is 20.5.41 dated, the day the invasion of Crete began. The first pictures were taken 5:15 am before taking off. The first pages on Crete were taken on 7:15am.

About 120 photos were taken on Crete. The rest of the album shows mainly photos taken on their way back through Bulgaria. Roughly 300 photographs in total.

A very nice album which was period time beautifully set-up by the soldier.

Linen cover with lettering "Kreta 1941 16./Sturm-Regiment" and an Iron Cross in the centre.

Unique! Nice condition 2.
