Waldemar von Fischer (1189 - 1974) served as a WW1 u-boat commander during WWI and as chief of staff of the WWII shipyards St. Nazaire and La Rochelle during WWII. He became Danish Naval Commander Islands from August 1944 until the end of the war.
His WWI U-Boot commands were:
UB 33 - 1.2.1917 - 21.3.1917
UC 60 - 25.6.1917 - 30.11.1917
UB 38 - 6.12.1917 - 24.12.1917
UB 126 - 20.4.1918 - 11.11.1918
Von Fischer has sunk four steamers during WWI: Est, Ottokar, Maja, Laila. 5461 BRT in total. Please see other items at auction.

1916 dated glass ashtray with silver top ring. Hand-engraved "Bottnischer Meerbusen 31.10. - 15.11.1916" -- "U 22" -- "Libau". An nice quality present Waldemar von Fischer would have been presented in 1936 to remember the time in Libau. He most probably served on U22 at this time.
Stamped with half-moon and crown, "800" silver stamped and maker marked.
Including an original photograph of "UB 126" taken in 1917 Waldermar von Fischer commanded from 20.4.1918 until 11.11.1918. A note to the reverse "UB v Onkel Waldemar" (U-boat of uncle Waldemar). 22.5cm x 17cm. Signs of age.
