Description

Rare Kaiserliche Marine presentation sabre to Korvettenkapitän Rüdiger von der Goltz. Made by Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie., Solingen.

The sabre comes with a "heavy" real damask blade. A so-called "Steckrückenklinge mit Schör" blade. Pitting. Nice etching to three sides showing naval motifs and the inscription "Richard Otto Max Rüdiger" and "Freiherr von der Goltz" as well as his family coat of arms. Furthermore nice "damask roses". Remains of the original gilding in place. "WKC" maker marked.

Nice ivory handle with intact wire wrapping. Chips to the top. The fire-gilded guard (basket) shows the emblem of the Imperial Navy. A lion's head as pommel with inserted red glass eyes. Folding crossguard including the engraved inscription "Freiherr von den GOLTZ". Matching officer's portepee.

Black leather scabbard with gilded fittings. A few small dents. The upper fitting is loose (the clip is missing).
