Description

Three caps of Leutnant Willi Karl Hans Sammet were rescued by our consignor when the family were about to dump them during a house clearance about 25 years ago. His tunics were already lost at this time.

Sammet, born on 18.5.1914, served as a Zugführer (platoon leader) 5./Panzer-Regiment 36 (14. Panzer-Division) when he was killed in action on 5.7.1941 near Piszczow. He is buried at Nowograd, Ukraine today.

All three caps are available on the market for the first time.

-

A "Feldmütze alter Art" known as a "crusher cap" worn by Leutnant Sammet. Originally attached machine-woven officer's wreath badge and eagle. Attached by hand. These are the correct insignia for a "crusher cap" like that.

Constructed with a vulcanised fibre visor. Pink piping for Panzer troops. Dark green cap band.

UNCLEANED, DUSTY & WITH COBWEBS. EXACTLY AS IT WAS FOUND!

Part of a 1941 dated "Bayerische Ostmark" newspaper inside to adjust the size of the cap. "Ausgabe Hof". "Hof" is actually a city in Bavaria very close to where his caps were found.

Celluloid diamond with maker's tag of "Otto Zillmann". Out of shape and damaged.

Size 56. Moth damage.
