Three caps of Leutnant Willi Karl Hans Sammet were rescued by our consignor when the family were about to dump them during a house clearance about 25 years ago. His tunics were already lost at this time.

Sammet, born on 18.5.1914, served as a Zugführer (platoon leader) 5./Panzer-Regiment 36 (14. Panzer-Division) when he was killed in action on 5.7.1941 near Piszczow. He is buried at Nowograd, Ukraine today. 

All three caps are available on the market for the first time.

Very rare early Heer Panzer troops beret to Leutnant Sammet. An untouched example in good condition. Only about 10 small moth holes to the removable wool top. UNCLEANED, DUSTY & WITH COBWEBS. EXACTLY AS IT WAS FOUND!

Typical removable black top (we have not removed it!) with correctly hand-attached machine-woven insignia. Early white-black example in matching condition showing the same patina. Lining from typical water-resistant material which is still flexible.
The wool top comes complete with the small slap and shows typical details.

The beret comes with a „Georg Maul“ paper name tag to the inside of the sweat-band. However, it 100% belonged to Sammet. It must have been reissued to Sammet after Maul finished service. It is furthermore „Karl Kubech“ maker marked, „1938“ dated and „56“ size stamped. Newspapers was put underneath the sweat-band to adjust the size.

Parts of some newspaper this beret must have been sitting on for decades stick to the sweat-band. We have not removed it.
