Navy Medal Bar with Military Merit Cross

Description

Prussian Military Merit Cross or so called Pour le Mérite for Non-Commissioned Officers on medal bar with oversized Iron Cross 2nd Class 1914 by J.Godet. The silver gilt Militray Merit Cross is finely coined and marked “?” 938 on the lower cross arm for the maker Wagner in Berlin and its silver content. The cross shows the tool flaw in the “T” of the medallion motto:”Militärverdienst” indicating a late war coined cross. Both crosses are suspended from black combat ribbons with white stripes. The reverse of the bar covered in blue felt as used by members of the imperial German navy. Manufacturer label from the Godet Company in Berlin attached to the reverse of the bar in metal.

Only 12 Military Merit Crosses were awarded to members of the navy during World War I based on Willi Geile’s research in 1989. Two crosses in 1917 and 10 in 1918.

Extremely rare combination to a brave sailor in Mint Condition!
