Description

Heer M40 field tunic to Feldwebel Hans Huber serving with Gebirgsjäger Regiment 99. The tunic and medals were donated by him to a museum but were finally sold when the museum closed.

This tunic was period time modified by a tailor due to the personal taste of the owner. Soldiers preferred the more elegant M36 style featuring a dark green collar and dark green insignia. A dark green cloth was period time added above the grey M40 color. All modifications were executed period time and definitely prior to 1945.
Modifications like these are quite common and give this tunic a unique touch.

Breast eagle: Machine-woven type. 100% period time attached by machine.
Collar tabs: Period time attached by machine.
Shoulder boards: Slip-on boards for Gebirgsjäger units. EM Type which were "prompted" later by adding an NCO's tress by machine. You can see the boards once had embroidered "99" cyphers, too. The stichting holes are now partially covered by the rank pips.

Lining. Cotton
Stamps: size stamps and a "WB40" depot marking
Buttons: Period time attached. Complete. Two period time re-attached.

A few moth holes. Minor signs of wear.

A very nice silver Close Combat by A.G.M.u.K. Excellent blueish plate. Nice silver finishing! A fine haicrack near the catch (reverse) and the left wing of the eagle (obverse).
A fine zinc Infantry Assault Badge in silver. A rare FCL maker marked.
Iron Cross 1st Class. An excellent unmarked example of Wächtler & Lange. Condition 1-
A Croatian "Medal of Poglavnik Ante Pavelić for Bravery" medal attached with a few stichtes to the uniform for walking out.

All badges attached to loops. One extra loop underneath the Iron Cross loops. He must have worn the Infantry Assault Badge here at first.

A hand-attached KUBAN shield as well as a Gebirsjäger sleeve badge.

Attached Iron Cross 2nd Class ribbon and East Medal ribbon bar,
Inside the tunic were a few "99" ciphers and another East Medal ribbon bar.
