Imporant Medal bar of Generalmajor Eugen Ott, German ambassador to Japan.
The medal bar consists of the Prussian Iron Cross 2nd Class, 1914, Wurttemberg Military Merit Order, Knight’s Cross in gilded silver and enamel with missing reverse center medallion, Wurttemberg Friedrich Order, Knight’s Cross 1st Class with Swords in gilded silver and enamel (both Wurttemberg order decorations were made by the Stuttgart mint), Bavarian Military Merit Order 4th Class with Swords in gilded silver and enamel by Gebr. Hemmerle in Munich, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Military Merit Cross 2nd Class in gilded bronze, Hamburg’s Hanseatic Cross in silvered metal and enamel, so called Hindenburg Cross with maker’s mark on reverse: “G&S” as well as the pair of III. Reich Army Long Service Decorations for 25 (beautifully polished highlights) and 12 years of service. The Bar is terminated on the reverse with black felt and needle system for wear.
The medal bar is accompanied by a miniature chain reflecting the complete array of medals and decorations from the medal bar. However, the sequence of medals is different. The very high-quality miniatures here are no surprise as the chain is made by Godet in Berlin.
The ribbon bar is almost a mirror image but for the added III. Reich Red Cross decoration 3rd class. The bar shows all necessary miniature applications for the various war decorations etc. and is terminated on the reverse with army green felt. Full needle system present.
The fact that all items are presented in a blue case with Godet makers imprint lead us to believe that all items come from their prestigious workshop.
The group comes with an excerpt from the German Medal Collectors Society’s magazine discussing the medals and career of Eugen Ott.
Fantastic Group in best condition and very interesting pedigree. An article was published on that exact medal bar and the story of Eugen Ott in the "Orden und Ehrenzeichen", 18. Jg., Nr. 101 (Februar 2016).
