Beautiful handcrafted veteran´s flag of 5. Westpreußisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr.148 Kameradenverein Berlin. This regiment was based in Bromberg. Bromberg is very infamous for the so-called "Bromberg Bloody Sunday" (Bromberger Blutsonntag). Two days after the German invasion of Poland, on 3rd September 1939, a series of killings took place at Bromberg, a Polish city with a sizable German minority. Around 40-50 Poles and 100-300 Germans were killed during a fight between the Polish Army and German non uniformed saboteurs. The majority of the Germans were executed after the attack.For the Bromberg history that flag can be considered as a very important piece of history. A silent witness of the Bloody Sunday in 1939.

Apart from the historical point of view that flag is very special for the quality. A stunning silk construction with hand-stiched letters, symbols and ornaments. It is based on the design of a Prussian Imperial Infantry flag. Nice stitched Prussian eagle with the motto "Pro Gloria et Patria" on top. The reverse mentions the places were Westpr.Inf.Rgt.148 has fought during WW1: Somme, Champagne, Flandern, Polen, Kurland, Rumänien and of course Tannenberg.

There are two long extra flags part of the grouping. One says "Given by Anneliese John" the other remembers the 3178 fallen soldiers of Westpr. Inf.Rgt.138. Both are again hand-stiched and from silk. Each flag is about 1 meter long.

The slim flag got rips and cracks and is therefore in condition 3. A very nice piece of history which will be a great addition to your collecting room. Size: 120cm + 120cm. The flag is from the 1920s.

Information on the pole:

Original flagpole is still there as well which measures 2,80 meter in total. It shows a 1914 Iron Cross in the center of the pole.
