Description
Document grouping to Matrosengefreiter Heinrich Leisten who served one U-116 when sunk on 11. or 15.10.1942. It started for its fourth campaign under Oberleutnant zur See Wilhelm Grimme in Lorient on 22.9.42.

U-116 was a "Minenleger" U-Boot of Type X B. It was part of 1.U-Flottille based in Brest and had 4 "Feindfahrt" missions destroying 4.248 BRT and damaging one ship with 7.093 BRT. During its 2nd mission, it was supporting the famous U-96.

Part of the grouping is his original death card as well as a letter of Korvettenkapitän and chief of the 1.Flottille Winter dating 1.4.1943. He explains that U-116 was finally reported as sunk.

Furthermore a postcard 1951 dated letter of the "Deutsche Dienststelle" confirming the death of Heinrich Leisten on U-116.

It came in a 1942 dated cardboard roll which held a printed painting of the artist Adolf Bock. It was shipped to families of Kriegsmarine sailors killed in action. The picture was never framed and is in good condition. In addition, there was a hand-written letter of condolence by the "Frauen der Kriegsmarine".
