Waffen-SS, M35 'double-decal'-type steel-helmet that comes complete with its camouflaged ('oak-leave'-pattern) helmet-cover. Helmet and cover were found together and were never separated. Extremely rare helmet of historical importance.
The helmet comes complete with its period-installed liner (which is a bit damaged and that misses a part of one of its 'tongues'). The liner - which has somewhat 'dried-out' - shows both its aluminium-based-rings in place and comes with its period-attached helmet chin-strap (that shows a present albeit hard to decypher maker- ie. year-signification). The chinstrap is uncleaned and still souple and functional. The liner comes period-affixed by means of its 3 (period- and non-altered) rivets.
The steel-helmet shows a clearly stamped makers'- (ie. size) designation that reads: 'ET66'. The helmet - which is of a fairly large size and that was intended for a soldier with a head-size of '58' - shows a fair bit of its (typical!) apple-green-coloured paint remaining but shows some age, wear and/or staining. The piece shows a painted bearers'-name (that clearly reads: 'Rottfhr. Mindnich' as can be seen in the neck) came with both its period-applied decals, attached. These show, however, moderate age and wear and are somewhat damaged (as can be seen on the pictures).
The (as always) reversible helmet-cover is of the fairly early-war pattern type and is produced from typical camouflaged, linnen-based cloth. The cover is executed in the so-called: 'Eichenlaub'- (ie. 'oak-leave'-) pattern and retains all of its three helmet-attachment-hooks (which are constructed from aluminum and that retain a fair bit of their 'anodized'-finish). All three (fragile) springs are also still functional and in place. The cover is completely void of any makers'-designation nor size-stamp (something that is more often encountered). It comes in a complete condition and retains all six 'loops' (present to affix camouflage-material) in place. The cover was with certainty used and worn: consequently, does it show some moderate age, wear and/or regular staining and also shows some (tiny) holes.
Both helmet and cover show as stated above moderate wear and usage and both show some staining, dirt and paint-loss: the set - which can as such easily be graded 'rare' has, however, never been cleaned and comes as found.
