Parade tunic and breeches to Stalingrad veteran and German Cross recipient Hauptmann Rudolf Datz. We had the honor to offer three more tunics and one pair trousers of Datz previously. Pictures of all other items to Datz are available!

Datz was awarded the German Cross in gold in Stalingrad on 30. January 1943. Datz was killed in action in Stalingrad the day after he was awarded the German Cross in gold. He died on 31. January 1943 and there are even records of the exact place in Stalingrad. His regiment was part of the 6. Armee (295.Inf.Div) and was destroyed in the battle of Stalingrad in February 1943.

Datz was born on 8.6.1919 in Werfen, Austria. Datz began his military carrer with Infanterie Regiment 12 in 1937 as a Fähnrich and than served as Zugführer 6. Kompanie 517 Infanterie Regiment during the France Campaign in the Lille and Rouen area and then was moved to Southern Poland and fought with Armeegruppe Süd. His unit then was part of the Russian Campaign in 1941 and served mainly in the Ukraine before it had to move to Stalingrad in September 1942.

Stalingrad was the grave of Grenadier Regiment 517. It must have been involved in serious combat in late January 1943 shortly before they were destroyed. Not only Datz has been awarded the German Cross in gold (30. January) but also the commander of Gren.Rgt.517, Oberstleutnant Richard Claassen, has been awarded the Knights Cross on 29. January 1943.

Since Hauptmann Datz was a Kompanie leader and possible even a Abteilungsführer in Stalingrad, there will be additional information on him available in archives and postwar regiment chronicles for sure. His uniform grouping was sold by the family around 15 years ago and stayed with a collector in our area ever since. This grouping was never for sale on the internet. It has not even left the city his family lived. This is the last tunic and trousers coming up for sale!

Physical description:

Mint parade tunic "Waffenrock" to Rudolf Datz which he had worn as a young Leutnant serving with Infanterie-Regiment 12. The tunic comes with all over period time attached insignia. The collar tabs were machine-attached, the breast eagle is attached by hand as it should be. The eagle is from extremely high quality!

Nice Inf.Rgt.12 officer boards. Two loops for an award. Tailored by Traugott Rahne, Hannover. There is no tailors label to the tunic but to his breeches. However, it is 100% proofed that tunic belonged to Datz. The size is exactly the same as the other Inf.Rgt.12 tunic we sold of him (it had a name tag) and it came with the other 3 uniforms from the family. No doubt!

The condition 1. Mint! Not one moth hole.The colors are fresh and clean even if it might look a little bright on the pictures. Size M.
