Description
Very early 1933/34 DLV visor cap. EM/NCO rank. The silk liner is Theodor Bredthauer Braunschweig maker marked. The cap comes with a matching set of insignia. Note the wreath badge which is a little small than the later Luftwaffe pattern. It is sewn to this cap so the prongs must be missing on this badge. The white thread looks period time to me and does not glow under UV light.

There is moth damage to the nearly unworn high quality cap. One right below the cap eagle and a few around the cap if you look closely. Therefore condition 2-.

A rare cap. Size 56.

The German Air Sports Association (Deutscher Luftsportverband = DLV) was an organisation set up by the NSDAP in March 1933 to establish a uniform basis for the training of military pilots. Since the Treaty of Versailles officially forbid Germany from building fighter planes of any sort the German Air Sports Association used Gliders to train men still officially civilians for the future Luftwaffe.
