Description

An interesting grouping to Oberleutnant zur See Rolf Holz serving as "LI" with "U 353". On 16.10.1942, the British destroyer FAME sunk U 353 with ten depth charges. The commander Wolfgang Römer and 18 crew members were picked up by FAME. Another 20 crew members were rescued by the Norwegian corvette HNoMS ANDENES. All were landed at Liverpool a few days later for internment in a POW camp. Including Rolf Holz (POW No. 59914).

1939 Iron Cross 2nd Class with machting ribbon. Three-part construction. Non-magnetic core. "L/15" maker marked.

Giled tombak U-Boot War Badge. Hollow-construction. Horizontal pinback. Very rare.

Nice group photo of the crew of "U 353". Lettered to the back "Indienststellung U 353, Flensburg am 31. März 1942". Furthermore a detailed description of the first battle up to the destruction of the U-Boot on 16.10.1942. Handwritten by Rolf  Holz. Very interesting. Size: 24x18cm.

Period time book "Der Seekrieg in Bildern". "Holz" named. Issued 1940.
