Description
Important certificate with presentation folder for the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross awarded to Stalingrad fighter pilot Leutnant Siegfried Engfer. Engfer joined the Luftwaffe in 1935, served with 9./Jagdgeschader 3 "Udet" and flew over 348 missions with his Me109.  He was awarded the Knight's Cross during the battle of Stalingrad on 2.10.1942 as a Feldwebel.

Engfer, nick-named "Lederstrumpf", achieved 58 victories in not even one year before a serious lung disease forced him to serve as a fighter pilot instructor in Germany in 1943. Many of the victories were won over Stalingrad / Kalatsch. See http://www.cieldegloire.com/001_engfer_s.php for a full list of all victories.
Engler, born in 1915, went missing on a train from Vienna to Munich in April 1946.

Knight's Cross certificates to fighter pilots are extremely rare. To find one awarded to a Stalingrad veteran is nearly impossible.
