Unique "Carl Eickhorn" masterpiece sword by G. Fink

Description

A unique masterpiece by G. Fink designed at the „Fachschule der Solinger Stahlwaren-Industrie“. The school was found in 1904 to educate students in designing and manufacturing "Stahlwaren" in Solingen. The school was renamed "Technisches Berufskolleg Solingen" after the war and still exists today and is headquartered in exactly the same building of 1904.

Fink was a teacher educating students at the "Fachschule". The sword being offered clearly is a masterpiece. It was manufactured as an advertising sample for the famous manufacturer Carl Eickhorn, Solingen, and must have been displayed in their headquarter as a sample to demonstrate Eickhorn's quality.

Massive high-quality damask blade. It is designed like the blade of a historical "Flamberge sword". Front side showing large size gilt advertisement slogan "ORIGINAL EICKHORN BLANKE WAFFEN" etched to the blade. The Carl Eickhorn Solingen maker's mark is placed at the beginning of the blade. Again, etched and gilt.

The reverse shows information about the designer "G.Fink" etched to the blade: "Fachschule Solingen - Entworfen und ausgeführt G. Fink" (designed and manufactured by G. Fink).

Steel blade in nice condition with minor signs of age. Length: 91cm.

Massive brass handle. Gilt. "Germania" with Prussian eagle to her robe with a sword in her hands. Cross guard designed like an eagle holding the German "Reichsapfel" in its claws. A lion above the eagle guarding cannons and cannonballs.

This sword was certainly never manufactured with a scabbard. It was displayed exactly like this.

Length: 107cm.
An outstanding piece of Third Reich "edged weapon history.
