Waffen-SS, M40 double decal steel-helmet shell. The helmet comes without liner (but shows both its zinc-based-rings and part of a chin-strap still present). The remains of the liner are still period-affixed by means of its 3 (period- and non-altered) rivets.
The steel-helmet shows with certainty a stamped makers'- (ie. size) designation, however, this is very hard to decypher without cleaning the shell. The helmet - which is of a fair size presumably '68' - was most likely preserved in a somewhat moist area and was lying with the inside on top (this created the rust on the inside and decaying of the liner). The outside retains, however, a fair bit of its period, (darker)green-coloured colour and came with its period 'runes'-decal attached (which is almost completely present and comes nicely preserved). The red swastika decal is almost gone but you can see bits left.
The piece shows moderate wear and usage and shows some staining, dirt and paint-loss: it has, however, never been cleaned and comes as found.
