Kriegsmarine U-973 Colani tunic to Maschinenmaat Schoppe

Beschreibung

Kriegsmarine Colani tunic which belonged to the U-Boot Maschinenmaat Heinrich Schoppe (22.07.1920 - 06.03.1944). The tunic came off his nephew and is available on the market for the first time. Again, this tunic 100% belonged to the U-Boot sailor Heinrich Schoppe serving with U-973.

On the 6.3.1944 U-973 was sighted by Fairey Swordfish 816/'X' operating from the British escort carrier HMS Chaser. As they approached the submarine began firing with four 20 mm guns. Sub-Lt(A) Bennett (HMS Chaser) fired three pairs of rockets, one of which struck the submarine just below the conning tower. The attack left 51 dead and 15 survivors. Schoppe was amongst the 51 dead.

U-973 took part in three wolfpacks, namely. Wehrwolf (4–11 February 1944), Boreas (2–5 March 1944) and Taifun (5–6 March 1944).
