M35 Luftwaffe officer's sword

Description

An excellent grouping to Luftwaffe Hauptmann Paul Förster serving with a Nachtjägerfliegergruppe. The absolute highlight is his stunning Luftwaffe presentation sword.

The sword was a gift to Förster given by the workforce of the newspaper "Westfälische Landeszeitung Rote Erde". It comes with a high-quality artificial damascus blade (etched). The front of the blade is constructed with gilt ornaments on a blued and gilt background. Golden lettering "Dem Führer unseres Betriebes, Pg. Paul Förster in Dankbarkeit und Treue." Inlcuding a gilt Lutwaffe eagle with swastika. The other side again shows fine gilt ornaments on a blued and gilt background. Golden lettering "Die Gefolgschaft der Westfälischen Landeszeitung Rote Erde". On the right the colored national emblem of Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen). Furthermore the maker's mark of Paul Weyersberg, Solingen.

The early nickel-silver (Neusilber) fittings have a nice even patina. A dark blue leather finished handle with intact wire wrapping. Pommel and crossguard show the typical sunwheel swastika (brass) on each side. Excellent dark blue leather finished scabbard with nickel-silver fittings. Absolutely matching with the handle. The upper fitting comes with the engraved initials "PF" for Paul Förster. No dents. All four screws unopened as well as in place. Original attached dark blue leather hanger. Length sword: 99 cm.

This sword is an absolute rarity. We are not aware of any examples of that high quality available on the market. Especially the colored national emblem of Lower Saxony is absolutely unique.
