M38 RAD NCO's hewer

Description

This hewer is in extremely fine condition showing little usage.

The hilt has extremely fine nickel plating and retains its crispness about the ferrule area. The beak at the top is also extremely crisp and finely curved.

The grip plates are outstanding genuine stag. The grip plates are expertly fit and have very desirable raised grains which have tones to a gold color at the tops as well as along the edges where the stag was trimmed. There is no sign of any turning of the screws and spanners.

The scabbard shell is straight throughout. The original paint is in outstanding condition still having a good sheen to its surfaces with a minor scratch. Other than a couple of nicks on the obverse and reverse this paint is still at about 95 percent. The scabbard mounts are also in choice condition to include the undented lower mount. Both mounts are decorated with the usual RAD designs which I am sure I do not need to describe at this point. The original screws are all in place and are unturned.

The blade is the usual matte finish and has a fine shape with its bowie tip. The blade shows only minor age but still easily grades in near mint condition. The motto is crisp and has about 98 percent of the darkening in the backgrounds. The reverse ricasso is etched with the RAD triangle Gesch Gesch and the double ovals of the firm being Carl Jul Krebs Solingen. In the center is a crown over the letter K.

Comes with leather hanger. Metal clamp is marked H & Co. 37.
