Luftwaffe M38 paratrooper helmet

Description

Luftwaffe M38 helmet. The helmet was consigned by one of our customers who got this helmet directly of the veteran's family. In fact, he had one the veteran himself for decades. It was a few years after his death when the family decided to sell the helmet.

The veteran was one of the first Fallschirmjäger of the Luftwaffe and was part of the Crete campaign. During a front vacation his home was bombed. He reported his helmet and two jumping smocks as lost. While the smocks never turned up again, the helmet was found and did hang in his party cellar for decades. Many of his guests wanted to wear the helmet for a moment which explains the condition of the rest of the liner and chin strap. The shell was once overpainted with light-green color by the veteran. This paint was carefully removed by our consignor and days and days of work.

ET68 marked shell with a lot of original paint remaining. Bits of modern green paint are visible. Only parts of the decals are still visible. Some still show green paint. We are unsure if these are the original decals or once which were applied by the veteran after painting it green.

Parts of the inner ring, lining pads, and chin strap in place. Most is gone. Still a very nice shell with story!
