Description
1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class in scarce colored presentation case. This case is in excellent condition and one of the nicest we have ever seen. Black/silver Iron Cross printed to the fielgrey colored top. Red-purple sides. White velvet inlay. Room for the ribbon. A small black-white-red ribbon to a corner. 
 
G maker marked 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class. Three-part construction. Magnetic iron center.
 
Excellent condition. Size of the case: 12cm + 8cm + 3cm.

King Frederick William III of Prussia initially created the Iron Cross as a military decoration on March 17, 1813, during the Napoleonic Wars. The Iron Cross was also awarded during the Franco-Prussian War (1870), World War I (1914), and World War II (1939).

The Iron Cross was usually a military decoration only but awarded to civilians for performing military functions in a few instances.
