Description

Martin Gustav Wilhelm von Goßler (born March 18, 1843 in Liegnitz , † October 3, 1898 in Kalbe) was a Prussian lieutenant general and Master of Kalbe.

Goßler went on the train as royal court page to the coronation ceremony of Wilhelm I in 1861 . In 1871, in the obituary notice for his father, Goßler is listed as prime lieutenant and served; with an interruption as adjutant in the 3rd Reserve Cavalry Brigade; in the 1st Hessian Hussar Regiment No. 13 as adjutant of the 8th Cavalry Brigade.

In 1874 he was Rittmeister and squadron chief in the 1st Hessian Hussar Regiment No. 13. In that year he was also Knight of Honor of the Order of St. John. In mid-1875 he was transferred as adjutant to the general command of the XIV Army Corps. Around 1888 he became a major à la suite adjutant to the Chief of the Army General Staff.

Goßler was head of the Central Department of the Great General Staff from 1889 until his death and ended his military career as Lieutenant General.

Martin von Goßler was also a recipient of the following orders: Prussia, Red Eagle Order 2nd Class with Oak leaf and Swords on Ring, Prussia, Crown Order 2nd Class, Baden, Order of the Zaehringer Lion Commander Cross with Oak Leaf, Bavaria, Military Merit Order 2nd Class, Mecklenburg, Griffin Order, Officer’s Cross, Saxony, Albert Order, Commander Cross 1st Class, Wuerttemberg, Order of the Crown Commander Cross and Frederick Order Commander 1st Class, Italy, Maurizius and Lazarus Order, Commander, Austria, Iron Crown 2nd Class and Franz Josef Order Grand Cross.

His medal bar consists of: Prussia, Iron Cross 2nd Class 1870 with Oak Leaf Cluster, Prussia Red Eagle Order 4th class with swords, silver and gold, type with smooth cross arms from after 1854, Prussian Long Service Cross for Officers 1st type, Prussia, 1870/71 War Commemorative Medal for Combatants, Prussia, 1848/49 “Treuen Kriegern” Commemorative Cross, private issue, Prussia, Coronation Medal, Anhalt, Order of Albert the Bear, Knight’s Cross 2nd Class.

Medal bar in great condition with red felt backing and double needle system.
