1893 hunting dagger - shooting price of the Rh. Jäger-Bat. 8 (engraved)

Description

An impressive hunting dagger, so-called "Hirschfänger". Issued in 1893 to the best marksman of the officers of the 3. Kompanie/Rheinisches Jäger-Bataillon Nr. 8.

The Hirschfänger comes with a so-called "Steckrückenklinge mit Schör" blade. Which is very atypical for a hunting dagger, as these were mainly used in military weapons. It shows nice etched ornaments and hunting motifs on both sides. Slightly stained. A real horn grip with two applied acorns. One is missing. Brass handle fittings.

Black leather scabbard with brass fittings. No dents. The top fitting shows the engraving "Dem besten Schützen 1893. Die Offiziere d. 3. Comp. Rh. Jägerb. No. 8.". Around 40 % of the throat is missing (the brass ring is broken). Including a small hunting knife that is carried in the pocket on the front of the scabbard.

Length dagger: 57.5 cm.

Signs of use.
