Description

Operation of the "Kampfgruppe" in the North Sea.

7 extensive war diaries with about 180 pages, maps, and attachments.  Covering the periods 16.6.-6.30.1943; 1.7.-15.7.1943; 16.11.-11.30.1943; 16.4.-4.30.1944; 1.6.-15.6.1944; 16.7.-1.8.1944; 2.8.-08.15.1944. The Kampfgruppe (starting from July 1944: 1. Kampfgruppe) was a federation of the Kriegsmarine, which consisted of several heavy units. It was embattled in February 1943 and existed until October 1944. At the beginning of 1943, Hitler's debate with Admiral Raeder took place, in which Hitler massively criticized the previous naval warfare and in particular the unsuccessful use of the heavy units despite the high personnel and material costs. Hitler demanded that the Oberkommando prepares for the decommissioning of all large surface water units. In order to mitigate the decommissioning order, "Seekriegsleitung" developed the plan for a training association, which should also be used for combat tasks. The department of the "Befehlshabers der Kampfgruppe (BdK)" came out of the former "Befehlshabers der Kreuzer" and was directly subordinate to the fleet command, which was united in March 1943 with the "Marinegruppenkommando Nord". The department of the BdK was held by the following officers: Admiral Oskar Kummetz (February 1943 - February 1944), Rear Admiral Erich Bey (representing November - December 1943), Captain of the Sea Rolf Johannesson (commissioned with the business February - June 1944) , Rear Admiral Rudolf Peters (June - October 1944). There were deployments in the North Sea, against Spitsbergen and the invasion defense in Norway.
