Description

An extremely rare and unique Germanic style sword. Made by "Reich master smith" (Reichssschmiedemeiser) Paul Müller (1888-1971). This sword was exhibited at the showroom of the "Lehrschmiede" in Dachau, Bavaria. It was the Reich training facility for swordsmiths and integrated into the SS-Totenkopf-Division at the same time. Müller led the training facility from 1939.

Paul Müller was famous for being the exclusive maker of the "SS Birthday Honor Degen". These "Degen" were personally ordered as well as awarded by Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, usually as a birthday gift. While Müller's "Degen" were rarely available on the market in the past (approximately 20 are known to exist only), this sword available in this auction is unknown so far! Interestingly, the blades of the "Degen" and this sword are designed quite similarly showing the same floral ornaments. Please see pictures of the photo of the "SS Honor Degen" below to compare.

Real damask blade with floral decor on one side. Slight stains. Nickel-plated hilt fittings. Apart from the crossguard (non-magnetic), all-metal parts were made of iron. Furthermore, a wooden handle, wrapped by a nickel-plated wire.

This sword ships with some information (photocopies) about Paul Müller and his work.

Total length: 70.3 cm.

Length blade: 57 cm.
