Oldenburg - House and Merit Order Grand Commander Cross
Description
This Grand Commander Cross was made from gold and enamel. The cross has no enamel chips and is in its best condition
Like most Oldenburg decorations, this one also shows alternating red and yellow gold finishes.
The ring that connects the crown to the cross is the simpler early style ring that dates the cross to the 1860s. In addition to the slightly smaller size of the cross, the painting of the Oldenburg coat of arms also indicates the early manufacture.
Only 610 Grand Commander Crosses were awarded from 1838 to 1918.
Beautiful cross with long neck ribbon. The ribbon with hooks for wear around the neck.
