British made gold medal in 18 carat gold and enamel, marked for 1891, for the Kaiser’s official visit to the City of London on July 10, 1891, on equally golden ribbon suspender.

One can speculate it to be either a badge for a senior official or possibly a presentation hand-out. A large bronze commemorative medal for the same event is known to exist as part of the ‘City of London Series’.

The Maker’s mark can be found on the reverse of the suspender for: ‘Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company in Regent Street (William Gibson and John Lawrence Langman)”
