Description

Medal Bar consists of Prussia, Iron Cross 2nd Class, 1870/71, with 25 year oak leaf cluster, loop repaired, Hesse-Darmstadt, Order of Philip the Magnanimous, Knight’s Cross 2nd Class with Swords, silver gold and enameled, , Hesse-Darmstadt, Military Long Service Cross for 25 years of service, gold, Hesse-Darmstadt, Field Service Medal 1840, bronze, Prussia, War Commemorative Medal 1870/71, bronze, with 5 bronze gilt clasps, “Gravelotte St.Privat”, “Noisseville”, “Orleans”, “Metz”, “Orleans”, Prussia, Centennial medal, bronze and Baden, 1848/48 War Commemorative Medal The bar is missing it’s red felt backing but has full needle mount on the reverse.

The Phillip Order is in great condition and shows the correct silver and gilt swords, typical flaking of the delicate lion on the reverse.

The golden long service cross in made from gold in a red- and yellow-gold finish.

The “Grossherzoglich Hessische Ordensliste 1914” lists only 5 living recipients for the Knight’s Cross 2nd Class with Swords of the Phillip Order and makes this an extremely rare combination.

The bar would be from a veteran and officer of the Franco Prussian War from the IX. Army Corps.
