Description

A medal bar with two Hesse-Darmstadt decorations. A Philip Order, Knight Cross 1st Class in gold and enamel as well as a extremely rare medal for Arts & Science in the design awarded from 1904 to 1918. The tools to coin this Art Noveau medal was created by Professor Rudolf Bosselt in Darmstadt.

The Grand Duke of Hesse-Darmstadt was a big supporter of the Art Noveau movement. The specifically designed and built artist colony, Mathildenhoehe in Darmstadt, is still attest to his generous support.

The Orders Record List from 1914 shows only 16 recipients of this rare medal.

A near mint condition medal bar to a honored artist or scientist.
