Description

An important grouping to a Kaiserliche Marine officer who served on board the "Hilfskreuzer Wolf". It was an auxiliary cruiser of the Imperial German Navy during WWI. Commander was Fregattenkapitän Karl August Nerger (Pour le Mérite winner). The "Wolf" sank 35 merchant ships and 2 warships (totalling 110.000 GRT). After 451 days and a distance of about 2.5 times the circumference of the earth, the WOLF returned to its homeport of Kiel in February 1918 with 467 prisoners of war. The ship also carried a "Friedrichshafen FF 33" aircraft. Scrapped in 1931.

The grouping consists of 125 excellent glass slides. It documents the "way" of the ship very well. Size each: 10x8 cm. Please see the pictures for more details.

Framed portrait photo (printed) of Fregattenkapitän Karl August Nerger. It comes with 17 original autographs. Including the signature by Fregattenkapitän Nerger. Dated "12. October 1927". Furthermore, two newspaper cuttings were glued to the reverse. Size: 22.5x28.5 cm.

Nice portrait photo of the officer. Postcard format. He was awarded the 1914 Iron Cross 1st Class. Including a handwritten dedication "...zur Erinnerung an die Rückkehr des Hilfskreuzers WOLF am 24. Feb. 18" (... in memory of the return of the auxiliary cruiser WOLF on 24. February 18). Signed "Fritz". Period time framed. Size: 19.5x26 cm.

A handwritten letter. Feldpost number M12320.

Not easy to find.
