Aluminum was considered very special in those days as it was just discovered on how to manufacture it. Its price was initially much higher than that of gold!

However, when Friedrich Wöhler refined the methodology of Aluminum manufacturing in 1849 the price fell below that of gold. Only Carl Josef Bayer finalized the most efficient production method in 1889, the so called “Bayer-Verfahren” used to today’s date.
