Description

"Seegefecht im Kanal" (Naval battle in the canal). Drawing by Willy Müller-Gera, pencil and charcoal on strong paper. Signed on the lower right, dated 22/7 / (19) 42 and inscribed, 93 x 114 cm. Verso described in detail on the reverse. Later inventory no. of the US seizure. The work is recorded: the painter Willy Müller-Gera (copy included). See also "German War-Art 1939-1945". On the back, different numbers: "Catalog No. 27; US Catalog 4750" as well as the description from 1942 "Lw War Report Company (mot.) 3 July 26th, 42nd. Original drawing by Hptm. Müller-Gera. Naval battle between German units and English speedboats in the canal on the night of July 21st July, 1942 (observed from the command post of the company on the canal. The battle was mentioned in the Wehrmacht reports of July 21st and 22nd, 1942 ". Good condition. Interesting picture that the sea battles with German Willy Müller-Gera (1887-1981), German painter and graphic artist. After completing his studies in 1913, he worked as a graphic designer in a large print shop in Lübeck and then in his father's lithographic institution in Gera until became a soldier in 1915. His drawings of the theaters of war in France and Romania were printed in the Leipziger Illustrierte Zeitung and in 1925 he became head of the graphic ateliers of the Vogel-Verlag in Pößneck / Thuringia. In 1941 he was drafted again and sent to France as official rapporteur. After 1945 he moved to Coburg, where he worked as a freelance illustrator.
