Description

Early production from the second third of the 19th century Century.

The order was issued by Royal Grand Ducal Decree of Wilhelm II., King of the Netherlands and Grand Duke of Luxembourg, on December 29, 1841, as a four-class (grand cross, knight of the star, commander and knight) general order of merit for the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. In 1858, a separate, eight-ray breast star was introduced for the Grand Cross and the class of knights with star was renamed Grand Officer. The officer class and the three-tier (gold, silver and bronze) affiliated medal of merit were added to the orignial 4 classesas well. See: Mulder, C.
