Description

Iron Cross 1st class, 1914, made from silver. On the reverse a cross-shaped plate with silver content mark "800" and round screw disc with a bracket, marked with the number "653146" and the design protection mark "D.R.G.M.", here the silver content mark "800". The body of the cross itself with silver content mark "900" and the coat of arms-shaped company signet of the company Meybauer in Berlin. Slightly worn condition with grown patina.

Exceedingly rare and one of the most desired variations of the Iron Cross 1st class 1914.

King Frederick William III of Prussia initially created the Iron Cross as a military decoration on March 17, 1813, during the Napoleonic Wars. The Iron Cross was also awarded during the Franco-Prussian War (1870), World War I (1914), and World War II (1939).

The Iron Cross was usually a military decoration only but awarded to civilians for performing military functions in a few instances.
