Like most Oldenburg decorations, this one also shows alternating red and yellow gold finishes.
The ring that connects the crown to the cross is the double style early ring that dates the cross to the 1850s. In addition to the slightly smaller size of the cross, the painting of the Oldenburg coat of arms also indicates the early manufacture.
Maker mark "Knauer" on ring.
Only 1121 Commander Crosses were awarded from 1838 to 1918.
