The Medal for Service in the Fire Protection Service was founded on November 16, 1904. The Grand Duke awarded the medal for good conduct and good efforts in the service. It was added on November 1, 1911, that one could be awarded the medal also after 15 years for zeal and after 25 years being in a managerial position. The medal was physically awarded from January 26, 1905, to June of 1918. It is not known who many were exactly awarded, but the archives have over 800 applications for the medal.
