This 2nd Class Cross of the Order of St. Sava is the 1st type awarded from 1883 to 1903. It is made from gilt silver and comes on a trifold ribbon. Ring marked with control mark for Vienna, silver content mark type 1872-1922 for 900/1000 content and G.A.S. for Georg Adam Scheid in Vienna. Saint in red robe.

Georg Adam Scheid (G.A.S.) was an Austrian silversmith and jeweler during the Victorian era. In 1853, he began an apprenticeship at the age of 16, and moved to Vienna in 1858, entering the workshop of Michael Markowitsch, an established maker of gold, silver, and jewelry goods. Scheid began his own grand scale operation in 1882, producing a variety of silver and enameled goods, specializing in small objects and jewelry.

The Order of Saint Sava was established by Milan I of Serbia, who had converted the Principality of Serbia into a kingdom in March 1882. It was first awarded in January 1883, to recognize civilians for meritorious achievements benefitting the Church, the arts and sciences, the royal house, and the state. In 1914, a change to the Order was made which permitted soldiers of the Serbian Army to receive the honor for military merit. The Order of St Sava was thereafter awarded by the kings of Serbia and its successor Yugoslavia until the abolition of the monarchy in 1945.
