Description

The Benevolence Society was founded in 1877 to give aid to the wounded in the Satsuma Rebellion of that year. After signing the Geneva convention in 1887, the society was renamed to Japan Red Cross Society. The Red Cross Order of Merit was created on June 21, 1888.

This Silver Red Cross Order of Merit made from silver and enamel is in mint condition.

Full ribbon with wearing device, lapel miniature and original case of issue.
