A very interest Heer winter Panzer beret, a so-called "Schutzmütze". The beret is typically constructed with a black colored (water-resistant) linen lining which turned hard over the decades. It comes with the original maker's mark"CARL HALFAR BERLIN" which is a known maker for Panzer "Schutzmütze" berets. This beret clearly is a feft-over at its basic construction and was later turned into a winter beret by Carl Halfar firm. They added a modern brown lining and a grey cloth with fur lining which was typically used for winter caps.
The sweat-band is "57" size stamped and "1942" dated to the inside. Both straps are in place. The beret comes with an aluminum cap eagle.
