Description

A Third Reich period time privately purchased black field cap made by "ALMI". Maker marked a a paper tag covered by a celluloid triangle. "Hermes" named. Orange color linin with a water-resistant finish to the top. Clearly worn sweat-band.

Typical "M43" style with a silver officer's cord. Aluminum buttons.

The shape of a removed skull and two holes for its prongs can clearly be seen. Hard to make out via the pictures.

The cap was worn by a Panzer Waffen-SS officer. The daughter of the original finder of the cap, confirmed in a statement dated July 1982, that her father has found in the cap in a barn where German soldiers stayed overnight. It was hanging on a nail inside the barn. The barn was in Rue du General Giraud in Barentin (Normandy, near Rouen). The letter will be shipped with the cap.

Not textbook, but period time.

Size 56. Condition 2. One moth hole found.
