Denmark - Knight's Cross for Ladies

Description

The Order of the Dannebrog is a Danish order of chivalry instituted in 1671 by Christian V. Until 1808, membership in the order was limited to fifty members of noble or royal rank, who formed a single class known as White Knights to distinguish them from the Blue Knights who were members of the Order of the Elephant. In 1808, the Order was reformed and divided into four classes.

This Knight’s Cross is made from silver and enamel. This type was awarded since 1972 with the reign of Queen Margrethe II. The Knight’s Cross in Silver was awarded since 1952.

Beautiful example with full lady’s style ribbon in bow format with safety pin attached to the reverse.

Silver and manufacturers markings on the ring for 925/1000 silver content and the “A.M.” mark for A. Michelsen. The presence of the assayer’s mark indicated that this cross was made before 1977.
