Description

Third Reich "Adolf-Jäkel-Straße" street sign. The street was named after the Luftwaffe Knight's Cross winner. According to our consignor, it was hanging near the Fliegerhorst Fürstenfeldbruck. After the war, it was dismantled and put into storage by the Allied US Forces. Many years later, a civilian employee of the airbase received two enamel signs for his service anniversary. One of them was this sign.

Blue enameled background with white letters. Four holes to attach the sign. Typical chipping at the corners and edges. Signs of use and uncleaned.

Size: 80x15.5 cm.

Includes a press photo of Knight's Cross winner Oberst Adolf Jäkel. He served as a transport pilot with Kampfgeschwader z.b.V. 1 and Kampfgruppe z.b.V. 999. Awarded the German Cross in Gold on 27.02.1942 and Knight's Cross on 19.08.1944. Also involved in the Battle of Stalingrad. Killed in action on 17.03.1945.

Size: 9x12 cm.
