Olympic Games 1936 torch and certificate to Imecs György

Description

Important 1936 Olympic Games torch and certificate to Imecs György. One of the most significant symbols connected with any Olympic Games.

The torches route runs from Olympia to Berlin, which is etched onto the shaft. Lettering at the top of the shaft: "FACKEL-STAFFELLAUF OLYMPIADE-BERLIN 1936". Above the German eagle with olympic rings.

The top shows the edged legend:

*ALS DANK DEM TRÄGER * ORGANISATIONS-KOMITEE FÜR DIE XI. OLYMPIADE BERLIN 1936 *

The inside of the top plate shows information about the manufacturer and about the material being used: "Krupp Nirosta V2A Stahl - Stiftung der Fried. Krupp A.G. Essen

Height: 27cm. With candle: 36cm

Daimeter of the top plate: 16cm

The top plate is slightly bent. The story goes that this torch belonged to a German torch carrier who failed to prevent his torch from getting too hot, which bent it out of shape. The torch carrier also burned himself. Lying in the hospital, he cried because the situation was so embarrassing to him. The Hungarian torch carrier Imecs György then gave his intact torch to the German torch carrier as a present. The damaged torch was then given to the Hungarian carrier in exchange. This bent torch is the one being offered in this auction.

Color certificate to Imecs György for participating the "Fackel-Staffel-Lauf" of the 1936 Olympics. Period time frame.
