Description

Handsome crystal candy dish with engraved silver rim. Inscription reads: “ 1./ K.G. General Wever 253 - Gotha - 13.3.36 - 30.9.36”.

Probably a gift to a parting member of the 4. Kampfgeschwader (Bomber Squadron) 253 stationed in Gotha (I. Group) from March 13, 1936, to September 30, 1936.

The bomber squadron was secretly establish on April 1, 1935. It’s code name was "Fliegergruppe Gotha”. The squadron was named after General Wever on May 1, 1939, who died in a plane crash just 3 days before that date.

The history of the squadron spans over the whole war with emphasis on the eastern and south eastern theater.
