Kingdom of Saxony - Janissary sword

Description

Saxon Janissary sword. Around 1730.

The sword comes with a 66.5 cm long, wide steel blade. Both sides show the royal monogram of August II "the Strong" (1670-1733). A solid brass handle. It also bears the monogram of Augustus II on both sides.

The Janissary Corps (elite infantry unit) was formed in 1729 by the Saxon Oberst Christoph von Unruh. Already in 1731, the unit was disbanded again. For this reason, these swords are very rare. Published in the reference book "Blankwaffen aus drei Jahrhunderten" by Klaus Hilbert.

Please see the pictures for the condition.

Length: 80 cm.
