VIEW DESCRIPTION

An early portrait photo of SA-Oberführer Wilhelm Stegmann serving with Freikorps Franken and SS-Sondereinheit Dirlewanger as well as a member of he Reichstag. Killed in action on 15.12.1944 near Ipolyság (Hungary).

Due to several conflicts with Gauleiter Julius Streicher, he spent several years in prison and in the Buchenwald Concentration Camp. His release followed the intervention of Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler.
